Opal, the predecessor project, was a roaring success and many tourists chose the carbon-neutral way for their whale-watching trips. Therefore, North Sailing decided to electrify another boat of their fleet. Andvari, built in Akureyri (IS) in 1975, was completely overhauled to become an electric boat in 2016.

Once more, ESORO was responsible for the software development for the electric drive train and the charging of the batteries. Furthermore, the hotel-grid was controlled from ESORO’s controller too. The two battery-strings are safely stored in a stainless-steel, waterproof battery-box that is engineered by ESORO. The active BMS (Battery Management System) from ESORO takes care of the battery status.

Technical specifications:

  • Power Electric Engine: 109 kW (cont.)
  • Battery: 2 parallel LiFePO4 battery-strings, 600V
  • Capacity: 240 kWh
  • Charging: plug-in, auxiliary generator
